Indeed.  Looks like the failures were on systems still on automake
1.15, for a bug that has since been fixed in automake 1.16.  I just
pushed another patch to try and clean that up, still waiting for CI to
finish on all platforms, but looks like it did pass on
opensuse-leap-153 which was one of the failures beforehand.
