root at slackrepo:/tmp/libvirt-rc/libvirt-0.8.8# grep -e '-L ' Makefile
LIBPCAP_LIBS = -L /usr/lib64 -lpcap

However, ...

./configure
sed -i -e "s#-L /usr/lib64#-L/usr/lib64#g" Makefile
sed -i -e "s#-L /usr/lib64#-L/usr/lib64#g" src/Makefile
make

does the trick. It's somewhat "known" hack for x86_64 at Slackware (?)
and I even have it in SlackBuild which I haven't used for this test build.

With hack above, even % make check; passes at Slackware64-13.1

Regards,
Z.
