VFS is above file systems, LVM/block devices are below.

The layering is roughly like this

        System calls  / NFS server 
                   VFS
                 Filesystems          (sometimes bypassed)
             Generic Page Cache       (sometimes bypassed)  
     	     LVM / Raid / LVMS
                 elevator 
     IDE driver / HW RAID driver / SCSI drivers
