Yes,  copies of the metadata of all VGs sit in /etc/lvmtab.d/ to be accessed
by the tools for performamce reasons.

/etc/lvmconf/ contains archives of the metadata with a default history depth
of 10. IOW: you can backout 10 levels in case configuration changes go wrong
presuming that you didn't write data to changed LVs potentially
overwriting extents previously allocated to other LVs.
