[linux-lvm] Checking the change in lv layout

Hi Every one

I am using lvm 1.0.3 
i  am developing a program which stores the configuration info about the lv.
Is there is any way so that i can check the current lv configuration is same as the previous one which i have stored .
lv may be a snapshot volume.

I am more intrested in checking wether the disk layout of that lv changes or not 
also what should i assign as id to that lv for future comparision  of the lv configuration
