We should think for hinting Indian fonts in long term, at 8 point size, shape not looks very good even at Desktop. In other case Latin script characters look crystal clear due to hinting. Autohiting doing good job at desktop level, but still hiting instructions specifically for particular fonts, style and script can surely make it better. Before I could type the mail out, IE showed its true face. Instead of boxes, its character junk now. (Find attached) :( Am not sure about the reason for it. If I try to reset and then choose back Lohit, it works fine. I have few other suggestions on Webfonts, which I shall raise bugs / write a seperate mail. Bold font is an issue still, but that is probably livable since Wikitext doesnt have much of text in bold. Hello -- I am sorry but perhaps I have missed the earlier mails on this topic as I was busy with my Ph D submission routines. Please clarify what you are doing to the Lohit Tamil font and then I can look into it and tell you whether "Tamil speaker(s) are happy with it" or not. So one can get proper rendering of content even if fonts is not present/available locally. http://translatewiki.net/wiki/Main_Page?setlang=ta But we were facing some hinting issues while using WOFT so santhosh had applied Embolden transformation of fontforge on Lohit Tamil and wants feedback whether it looks good or not. So now options are: 1) Try some other tweaking in Lohit. 2) Design Lohit Devanagari Bold Instead of dependency of auto bold algorithm, in long term it will be good to have Lohit Bold so such problems will not occur. Same is followed in other fonts i.e. Liberations, Dejavu as well. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug. How about Devanagari, Bengali, does "?????" renders correctly in Messaging app? Open type fonts need open type layout shaper for proper rendering of complex script. Harfbuzz[1] is in active development for Indian script. 1. http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/HarfBuzz > > Regards, > Reshma > > On Thu, Dec 22, 2011 at 11:23 AM, Parag Nemade > wrote: > > Hi, > > On 12/22/2011 10:38 AM, reshma naik wrote: > > Hi All, > > I am trying to get the kannada font support for Android ICS. > > I see that there are 3 font support > Lohit-Bengali,Lohit-Devanagari and Lohit-Hindi along with > system fonts. > > On similar lines ,I downloaded the binary Lohit-Kannada from > the site and placed in folder Lohit-fonts in external folder > of the source code and made relevant make file changes. > > I have also included the Lohit-Kannada font as family-set in > fallback_fonts.xml in the framework. > > After MAKE,I am able to see the kannada fonts render in > browser but the complex script is not supported.Glyphs are not > rendered in proper way ,though it is just readable. > > Kindly help as I have tried all possible ways from my side. > > > Does steps given in the following link works for you? > http://androidandsandu.blogspot.com/2011/12/how-to-add-indian-languages-to-android.html > > Regards, > Parag. > > > > > -- > Warm Regards, > Reshma Naik > > > > _______________________________________________ > Lohit-devel-list mailing list > Lohit-devel-list at redhat.com > http://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/lohit-devel-list -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
