Highlights of the 2.92.0 are as follows - Additions of imatra (?) and associated ligatures to match characters width. Earlier imatra's and associated ligature were not attaching properly with some glyphs. We have added 32 glyphs in font to fix it. - Thorough testing on Windows platform. (Xp, W7 and W8) - Improved consistency in glyph names over to 2.91.0 (Alpha) release. I am thankful for people involved in testing and provided valuable feedback and bug reporting. See the Changelog [1] for details about the issues fixed in this release. Updated lohit project page [2] for download details. Source tarball link [3], TTF tarball link [4] and webfonts format for Lohit is at [5]. I will soon build this for Fedora. Feedback and suggestions for improvements are welcome. Thanks manoj for bringing this to notification. From bugzilla link [1] given by you i found another link [2] which provides more details regarding the change of Oriya to Odia. Not sure should we do this change immediately by releasing existing version by changing name or should wait for some development on Odiya font? I think first option looks better. In this 2.93.0 release i initially thought there will be not that many enhancements or fixes possible but i was wrong. We have following fixes in this version. 1. Additions of 17 glyphs for U+093F (?) and its variants (reph, anusvara). 2. Contextual chaining substitution to match above added matras on proper glyphs. 3. Fix for locl tables for Marathi and Nepali language. 4. Fix for self-intersecting glyph warning in number of shapes. 5. Testing across platform. For more details see Changelog [2] Updated lohit project page [3] for download details. Source tarball link [4], TTF tarball link [5] and webfonts format for Lohit is at [6]. While looking back i see we have achieved objectives planned [1] during the start of project. Its time to move towards other scripts. Though Bengali, Gurumukhi, Tamil looks low hanging fruits we want to fix bit more challenging scripts as well. We started thinking on what we can do in Lohit Malayalam in last month. After couple of weeks of analyisis we found there is good scope for improvement in Lohit Malayalam. Basic improvements as we done in Devanagari and Gujarati 1. Following AGL. [2] 2. Supporting points provided in Unicode chapter 9 for Malayalam script. 3. Feature file separate for flexibility and reusability. 4. Complete cleanup of existing Open type tables 5. Supporting both "mlym" and "mlm2" open type specifications. 6. Thorough testing with Harfbuzz and Uniscribe (WinXp, W7 and W8) Other fonts specific improvement. 7. Presently Malayalam font has 281 shapes out of that we figure out 71 (+5/6) shapes are irrelevant. We can achieve these shapes with glyph positioning and intelligent glyph substitution rules without affecting fonts aesthetics and quality. 8. We have some pending bugs on bugzilla [3] as well As we planned earlier making Lohit fonts most efficient and effective is our primary objective. [1] Bit ambitious to say right now but i want make Lohit as a lightest Malayalam modern script fonts. Sneha has already started working on lohit2 [4] git repo for Malayalam font development. If you are looking any other suggestions or improvement in Lohit, feel free to propose here. Hi, Presently in git [1] we are not keeping Binary file. As you know we do have binary released tarball. [2] Not sure what can be ideal location for keeping TTF files. How about pravins at fedorapeople.org? > Also I wonder why Google search result shows default > lohit page with low ranking at least for Punjabi. > 'lohit punjabi' > That's surprising. on lohit project page[3] we do not have direct word "lohit punjabi" that might be reason. I will update lohit [3] project page to have direct words for all fonts like "Lohit Punjabi" rather than just keeping Script name. Hoping it will improve results. Its time to include those in Lohit Marathi and Nepali. If someone still don't know, Lohit Marathi and Nepali are just fork of Lohit Devanagari with removal of 'locl' tag and making default behaviour (irrespective of locale) to match with respective languages. See Changelog [1] for more information regarding the changes. Updated lohit project page [2] for download details of source, ttf and webfonts format. I will soon build this for Fedora. Since there are multiple scripts are used for Punjabi language i think in long term it will be good to use script name rather than language name. AFAIK Gurumukhi script is only used for Punjabi language so having font name with script will not make much difference. As you know we are working on Lohit2 project and planning for Lohit Punjabi next month, so we will release new Lohit Punjabi with Gurumukhi name. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug. I also agree for the change to use script name rather than language name. But please note that while linguistically the name is indeed Gur*u*mukhi with "u" after "r" (the meaning being "received from the mukha = mouth of the guru = teacher"), however in common nomenclature the name doesn't have "u" after "r". Even in Unicode standard it is called Gurmukhi as mentioned by OP and also on http://www.unicode.org/charts/. So I recommend to use Lohit Gurmukhi. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
