Sneha did most of the work during march, we worked further, resolved bugs from GSUB and cleanup of GPOS. Following are improvement in Lohit Bengali. * Support for both "beng" & " bng2" open type script tags * Rewritten all open type rules. * Following Unicode, OpenType and AGL specifications. * Automated Testing module available * Rules available in feature file, compiled using AFDKO (adobe font development kit) * Tested on W8, Harfbuzz, utrrs. * Removing redundant characters (specifically the half forms since anchor-positioning applied to them) * Implementing "copy reference" feature This is still alpha, need help for testing. I will definitely ping offline for testing :) Feel to to report issues and suggest improvement at github. [2] As most of you know now, this improvement in Lohit is happening under Lohit2 [3] project which aims to create standard, efficient and effective OpenType tables which can be referenced or directly used by future font project development. Comparing Assamese and Bengali language fonts brings out following points. 1. Both follows same Unicode range. [2] 2. Assamese has following alternatives over to Bengali :- 09F0 (?) & 09F1 (?) AFAIK there are not much difference other than this. Considering this i thought it is good time to do release of the Lohit Assamese as well so we can get testing from both Assamese and Bengali communities. Highlight's are not much different than we announced for Lohit Bengali but i think good to mention again here. - Support for both "beng" & " bng2" open type script tags - Rewritten all open type rules. - Following Unicode, OpenType and AGL specifications. - Automated Testing module available - Rules available in feature file, compiled using AFDKO (adobe font development kit) - Tested on W8, Harfbuzz, utrrs. - Removing redundant characters (specifically the half forms since anchor-positioning applied to them) - Implementing "copy reference" feature Fedorahosted page is updated with download details [3]. I will soon build this for Fedora, feel free to report issues and suggest improvement AT github [4]. Since Lohit is a high visibility font especially used in Linux/Android devices and all, if we are standards compliant then it will encourage others to be so as well in their input methods etc. if we are non-compliant then we are merely encouraging people to continue using non-standard input sequences. I strongly doubt that in latest Windows 8 fonts the old sequence would be supported (but I don't have that OS so I can't test). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
