And he would be even better off not doing this at all. If you have the
source code of the application, and it is suffciently clean, then
compiling it on s390 normally works. Emulating the instruction set of
another processor can sometimes work (like Hercules running for
example on x86 can emulate the s390 instruction set) if the host
processor is fast enough (emulation may well take a factor of 10).
Unfortunately, zSeries CPUs have a relative slow processor speed which
makes the overhead of emulating another architecture very painful.
