No, that's only a workaround for the problem :-).  The problem is some
process still holding the lock on /etc/.pwd.lock, or maybe a bug in
lckpwdf() - locking is done using fcntl(), the existence of the lock
file does not mean that it is locked.  Using fcntl() locks means that
the lock (not the lock file) is removed automatically by the kernel
when the process holding the lock exits.
