Still looking for help with mod_auth_pam on HP-UX 11.00

HELP!

I've gotten farther in getting the Apache mod_auth_pam module to work on
HP-UX 11.00

At this point it compiles and runs, and works correctly on one of my HP-UX
machines, but not on another one.

On both machines, I have installed the exact same binaries of Apache with
mod_auth_pam. I have also enabled pam debugging by touching /etc/pam_debug

Both machines are running HP-UX 11.00 32-bit.

On the machine that *works*, pam_debug puts the following in syslog:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Oct  3 16:04:54 titanium PAM: pam_start(httpd millaadi)
Oct  3 16:04:54 titanium PAM: pam_set_item(1)
Oct  3 16:04:54 titanium PAM: pam_set_item(2)
Oct  3 16:04:54 titanium PAM: pam_set_item(5)
Oct  3 16:04:54 titanium PAM: pam_authenticate()
Oct  3 16:04:54 titanium PAM: load_modules: /usr/lib/security/libpam_unix.1
Oct 3 16:04:54 titanium PAM: load_function: successful load of
pam_sm_authenticate
Oct  3 16:04:54 titanium PAM: pam_get_username(ux)
Oct  3 16:04:54 titanium PAM: pam_mapping_in_use()
Oct 3 16:04:54 titanium PAM: unix pam_sm_authenticate(httpd millaadi),
flags = 2
Oct  3 16:04:54 titanium PAM: pam_set_item(6)
Oct  3 16:04:54 titanium PAM: pam_acct_mgmt()
Oct  3 16:04:54 titanium PAM: load_modules: /usr/lib/security/libpam_unix.1
Oct 3 16:04:54 titanium PAM: load_function: successful load of
pam_sm_acct_mgmt
Oct  3 16:04:54 titanium PAM: pam_set_item(6)
Oct  3 16:04:54 titanium PAM: pam_get_username(ux)
Oct  3 16:04:54 titanium PAM: pam_mapping_in_use()
Oct  3 16:04:54 titanium PAM: pam_end(): status = Success
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

But on the machine that *doesn't* work, I get this:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Oct  3 16:07:48 silver PAM: pam_start(httpd millaadi)
Oct  3 16:07:48 silver PAM: pam_set_item(1)
Oct  3 16:07:48 silver PAM: pam_set_item(2)
Oct  3 16:07:48 silver PAM: pam_set_item(5)
Oct  3 16:07:48 silver PAM: pam_authenticate()
Oct  3 16:07:48 silver PAM: load_modules: /usr/lib/security/libpam_unix.1
Oct 3 16:07:48 silver PAM: load_function: successful load of
pam_sm_authenticate
Oct  3 16:07:48 silver PAM: pam_get_username(ux)
Oct  3 16:07:48 silver PAM: pam_mapping_in_use()
Oct 3 16:07:48 silver PAM: pam_authenticate: error Conversation failure
Oct  3 16:07:48 silver PAM: pam_set_item(6)
Oct  3 16:07:48 silver PAM: pam_end(): status = Success
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

I can't figure out what a "conversation failure" is, or more specifically
what is causing it.

If anyone has any ideas, I would greatly appreciate any tips or advice.
Thanks!

- Alan
