not sure if it's pam

Hi,

the quickie version.....I have a script which initiates ifup ppp0. Here
is a bit from /var/log/messages

This one failed.........

Jul 8 17:30:34 deli-1 pppd[6468]: secondary DNS address 209.166.160.132

Jul 8 18:00:37 deli-1 pppd[6468]: Modem hangup
Jul 8 18:00:37 deli-1 pppd[6468]: Connection terminated.

This one worked.....

Jul 9 04:31:55 deli-1 kernel: PPP Deflate Compression module registered

by (uid=0)
Jul 9 04:31:55 deli-1 su(pam_unix)[8915]: session closed for user root
Jul 9 04:34:02 deli-1 pppd[8818]: Terminating on signal 15.
Jul 9 04:34:02 deli-1 pppd[8818]: Connection terminated.
Jul 9 04:34:02 deli-1 pppd[8818]: Connect time 2.2 minutes.
Jul 9 04:34:02 deli-1 pppd[8818]: Sent 51351 bytes, received 13468
bytes.

In practically every instance where the script finished, there was the
"su(pam_unix)" , and every time the "su(pam_unix)" was missing, it
failed. Can someone tell me why?, or where I should start looking?
???? I'm a newbie ,but trying really hard :-)

thanks!

Rich
