If you see something like this set your core file limit to unlimited,
and restart the application with the parameter --direct.  Like

  elf/ld.so --library-path $PWD:$PWD/nptl nptl/tst-sem5 --direct

Then analyse the core dump which should be possible if you have the
kernel patch to creat multi-threaded core dumps in your kernel.  gdb
will then show you the different threads and thread number one is
(usually?) the one responsible for the crash.
