There should be only one libpthread on this system, and that is the one with 
nptl.  I will dig around some and make sure that nothing is "hanging around", 
Although perl seems to be building ok this time after I enabled threads in 
perl.    Both times I took "the default" other than this time building a 
threaded perl.  Is this an issue that needs to be addressed with the perl 
developers?
