As Red Hat (and its engineers) have stated previously, the major version
number is bumped when binary compatibility is broken, which usually implies a
new compiler version (consider GCC 2.95 -> GCC 3.2 for Red Hat 8.0) and a new
C library version.

One would expect Red Hat to at least release 8.1 and 8.2 before there being a
9.0.

Was this a serious question? :-/
