this is straight out of the nightly cronjob that your system should be
running to reproduce a list of installed rpm packages.
want a full sorted list...look at /var/log/rpmpkgs..which gets produced
every night as part of the nightly crons.

Incidentally, is there a way to find out which processor target version
of an RPM one has installed? (i.e. i386,i686,athlon etc)

rpm -q glibc --qf '%{name}-%{version}-%{release}.%{arch}.rpm\n'

As the original poster, it looks like I've really messed up:
I have *both* glib2-2.1.5-1.i386.rpm _and_
glibc-2.3.1-26.i686.rpm installed. OTH, I can't remove either
one:
root]# rpm -e glibc-2.3.1-26.i686.rpm
rpm: relocation error: rpm: symbol pthread_cond_init, version GLIBC_2.3.2 not defined in file libpthread.so.0 with link time reference

/var/log/rpmpkgs also shows:

/usr/lib/rpm/rpmq: relocation error: /usr/lib/librpmdb-4.2.so: symbol pthread_cond_init, version GLIBC_2.3.2 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference

/var/log/rpmpkgs.1 lists the following glib packages

glib-1.2.10-9.i386.rpm
glib2-2.1.5-1.i386.rpm
glibc-2.3.1-26.i686.rpm
glibc-common-2.3.1-26.i386.rpm
glibc-devel-2.3.1-21.i386.rpm
glibc-kernheaders-2.4-8.3.i386.rpm
glibc-profile-2.3.1-26.i386.rpm
glibc-utils-2.3.1-26.i386.rpm

I've downloaded glibc-2.3.1-30.i686.rpm from rawhide, but
for the reasons stated above, I can't install (rpm -Uvh ~) it.
This is an Athlon, to the 686.rpm taball should be correct, no?
