$ rpm -q bridge-utils

we have a RH 7.2 box that we want to bridge two ethernet interfaces
together on... the kernel module seems to be there, however,
bridge-utils doesn't seem to exist on the 7.2 distro nor
updates.redhat.com ... should I  use the one from 7.3, 8.0 or phoebe???

Ummm, no I wouldn't!!

How about this:
(bed pts1) # rpm -qa | grep redhat
(bed pts1) # rpm -qa | grep bridge
(bed pts1) #

I can attest that the bridging works just fine on 7.2. The box has been
up for over 160 days. Everything on the box is done with stock Red Hat
packages for 7.2.
