Re: Sending mail question

Hi Tunde,

Thanks for your response

As ROOT
# service iptables stop (no response)
# iptables --help
iptables v1.2.6a
....
....

# iptables -F
/lib/modules/2.4.18-18.8.0/kernel/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_tables.o: init_module: Device or resource busy
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
/lib/modules/2.4.18-18.8.0/kernel/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_tables.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.18-18.8.0/kernel/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_tables.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.18-18.8.0/kernel/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_tables.o: insmod ip_tables failed
iptables v1.2.6a: can't initialize iptables table `filter': iptables who? (do you need to insmod?)
Perhaps iptables or your kernel needs to be upgraded.

Remark: kernel-2.4.18-18.8.0

I sent this posting from another PC running RH7.3 and also using the same broadband without problem. The only difference is I am using Mozilla Mail on KDE.

How to stop the firewall of this PC (RH8.0)?

B.Regards
Stephen

Hi Stephen,
Its may not be enough to stop the service(it should be service iptables
stop),you must flush the tables using #iptables -F
before you telnet, but bear in mind the filtering may be from your service
provider.I am almost certain its a firewall issue.

Try "telnet 66.218.86.254 25 (i.e mx4.mail.yahoo.com) you should get a

+ve

reponse if smtp is not filtered.

Hope this helps some.

Do you get a mailer-daemon back?
That should give some clue.

Sorry I don't catch your question.

How are you sending the mail? With a GUI app?

I sent the test mail from Ximian as well as Kmail on KDE desktop

1) Ximian

(Setting -1)
Tools --> Mail Settings
'Sending Mail'
Authentication Type 'Password'

Clicking 'Send', following warning popup

XError
gpg: skipped 'satimis icare com hk': secret key not available
gpg: signing failed: secret key not available

Never asked for password

(Setting -2)
Tools --> Mail Settings
'Sending Mail'
Clicking 'Check for supported types' it selected 'NT Login'
on the droplist 'Password' fadeout

Clicking 'Send', following popup

Xenter Password
Please enter your GnuPG passphrase for

After entering 'Password' following warning popup
gpg: skipped ?:malformed user id
gpg: signing failed: malformed user id

2) Kmail on KDE desktop
The test-mail sent with record on 'Sent-mail' but the recipient can't receive it

Try sending from mutt, or if you are using sendmail try,
