This requires GNOME users to install the bulk of the KDE system just to use Publican. I have submitted a patch to create a sub-package of kdesdk (443023). The patch attached changes Publican to depend on the new kdesdk-potools subpackage which means that GNOME user would only need Publican, this new sub-package, and QT, to create documentation. --- Additional comment from kms at passback.co.uk on 2008-04-18 04:32:03 EDT --- Created attachment 302851 Patch to SPEC file to depend on kdesdk-potools rather than kdesdk --- Additional comment from rdieter at math.unl.edu on 2008-04-18 08:20:15 EDT --- In the meantime, instead of using Requires: kdesdk Consider using Requires: %{_bindir}/xml2pot %{_bindir}/po2xml instead (asap). This should ensure things continue to work before and after any split is done in kdesdk (which should be coming soon, hopefully). --- Additional comment from jfearn at redhat.com on 2008-04-20 23:49:21 EDT --- Changed requires and buildrequires to: %{_bindir}/xml2pot %{_bindir}/po2xml --- Additional comment from petersen at redhat.com on 2008-06-24 23:31:07 EDT --- I still see "Requires: kdesdk" in both devel and F-9. It can be replaced by kdesdk-utils for both of them or the above if you prefer. --- Additional comment from jfearn at redhat.com on 2008-06-24 23:42:40 EDT --- 0.34, where this bug has been fixed, is still being baked. --- Additional comment from stickster at gmail.com on 2008-07-13 11:35:29 EDT --- This can be fixed in the current (F-8, F-9, devel) package CVS -- it's just a specfile change and a new build and push. It doesn't need to hang on 0.34 being ready. I'm happy to do it, if that helps. --- Additional comment from updates at fedoraproject.org on 2008-07-14 22:53:14 EDT --- publican-0.33-1.fc9 has been submitted as an update for Fedora 9 --- Additional comment from jfearn at redhat.com on 2008-07-14 23:20:24 EDT --- Vote 1: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/F9/pending/publican-0.33-1.fc9 Also built in devel and F8. From misty at redhat.com Thu Sep 30 05:16:02 2010 From: misty at redhat.com (Misty Stanley-Jones) Date: Thu, 30 Sep 2010 01:16:02 -0400 (EDT) Subject: [publican-list] RFE for Publican Brands Message-ID: <476356733.452331285823762378.JavaMail.root@zmail02.collab.prod.int.phx2.redhat.com> I raised https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=638787 to ask for some changes to the JBoss brand, and Rudi asked me to email the list to see what people thought. I'll c&p the body of the bug here, but please go to the URL for the bug to see some attachments that illustrate my points. I'd appreciate any feedback. Most of these requests are triggered by feedback on documentation which uses the JBoss (non-community) brand. Description of problem: We'd like to request some changes to the Publican JBoss brand (not the community brand). This request is coming from Middleware ECS, in response to a group meeting we had. I'm attaching screenshots to explain some of the points. 1. We would like for the element of block-level elements (figures, examples, etc) to show at the top of the box rather than the bottom. 2. Examples with accompanying text are pretty common, but hard to read with the current brand settings. Black text on a brightly-colored background is never great typographically. For all of these block-level boxes, can we explore putting the text into a lighter-colored div inside the bright box? Another alternative is to take the current bright colors and use them as a wide (2-3px) border for the box instead, and use a more neutral color for the div that holds the text. This is for examples, figures, notes, warnings, and info boxes mostly. Screenshot attached. 3. A note inside an example should probably use a smaller font and a lighter formatting than one outside an example. I don't know if this is possible. This is a paradigm that is not out of the realm of normal use. 4. Variable lists inside examples have no div with a lighter background, making them really hard to read. Screenshot attached. 5. Programlistings inside of notes, warnings, or infos look terrible. Screenshot attached. -- Misty Stanley-Jones Content Author, ECS Brisbane Ph: +61 7 3514 8105 RHCT #60501081553354 Purgamentum init, exit purgamentum. Do you just mean having white text on a black background? The strange formatting in your screenshot is probably a faithful representation of the underlying XML. To reproduce something like it, I need to introduce extraneous whitespace and linebreaks into the <programlisting>. The background is black and the XML tags are navy blue. You can barely see the blue if you squint at the screenshot. Some things would also be marked up as red or what turns out to be dark green. It would all be fine if the background were white. Also I think the rounded divs are a bit tiresome, but that may be personal preference. The problem when you make up examples are that they almost never carry your point well. It's quite easy for anyone to reply "your argument is flawed, such an important point should be part of your main text" or "admonitions are for unexpected behavior, a setting like this should be part of the main documentation and if the warning is still required it should contain a link parameter in the main text." etc, etc. A real example where you couldn't write around it would carry much more weight and prevent such responses.
