This is a report of a defect. This same bug occurred with FAQs and there could well be other areas where this crops up. I'm reopening. As for the subject of glossaries in general, not every document is translated. There could be dozens of products even outside Red Hat that could use glossaries. Bug 475684 is still open because using glossaries is a valid request. Microsoft uses glossaries for their product documentation, and we are supposed to use their stylebook as a reference in our docs. If you don't want to support it *right now* then at least push this bug off into some kind of future bucket, just so this defect doesn't get lost. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug. We don't fix issues with the display or use of unsupported tags. FAQs are supported, so the issue was fixed. Glossaries are not supported, therefore the issue will not be addressed. > As for the subject of glossaries in general, not every document is translated. > There could be dozens of products even outside Red Hat that could use > glossaries. If people want to use unsupported tags then they need to fully support them themselves, which would involve making a brand and doing overriding the XSL. > If you don't want to support it *right now* then at least push this bug off > into some kind of future bucket, just so this defect doesn't get lost. Finding out where it's doing that and limiting it would take quite a lot of effort, so it's not likely this would get done any time soon. AFAICT there is no option in LibXML to stop at the first error found, it's possible it might be catchable in XML::LibXML::Error, but again that is a significant development effort finding out where and how to do that so it would not happen in any reasonable time frame. If this is having a significant impact then it'd be worth it for the people it's affecting to ask about these changes with the upstream XML::LibXML maintainer at CPAN. Removing keep-together.within-column can cause things to page break at odd locations and it's been a log standing policy to accept the page length limitation on such items. I doubt anyone will really care, but it's probably best to ask on the publican-list if you want it changed. FOP 1.0 might fix this, so it might be worth talking to Rudi about getting it tested. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug. Product: Publican Version: 2.5 Platform: i386 OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: medium Priority: unspecified Component: publican AssignedTo: jfearn at redhat.com ReportedBy: jmorgan at redhat.com QAContact: rlandman at redhat.com CC: mmcallis at redhat.com, publican-list at redhat.com Classification: Other Story Points: --- Created attachment 499974 --> https://bugzilla.redhat.com/attachment.cgi?id=499974 Feedback.xml file used in the JBoss Messaging User Guide Enhancement Overview: Update the publican-jboss brand with new entities and a revised Feedback.xml file to make raising a documentation bugs as easy as possible for customers. Background: To ensure consistency in Middleware documentation, the Feedback.xml file should be used across all JBoss books. However, Projects are currently overriding the brand's Feedback.xml file to add functionality not currently supported. This has been noted as adding unnecessary translation overhead. By tweaking the BZ URL, you can pre-fill a BZ bug report with the correct Product, Component, and a default summary title with the name of the user guide populated. This makes it much easier for a customer to create a documentation bug for a user guide. An example of this is demonstrated in the JBoss Messaging User Guide [1]. Click the bugzilla.redhat.com link in the guide to see the functionality. Proposed Enhancement: 1. Update the Feedback.xml file to match the one used in the Messaging User Guide [1] (Feedback.xml file attached to this issue) 2. Include entities used in the attached Feedback.xml file in the publican-jboss brand so they are automatically added to the .ent file when a new book is created. Entities are the bane of > translation and DocBook5 has very limited support for them, their future is not > bright. I also try to avoid entities as much as possible as well because of the problems with translation. I don't think translation would be affected in this instance however. The substitutions in this case would only be for Bugzilla Product and Component names, and the BZ URL string, which from what I can tell are not translated into other languages in the BZ web interface (correct me if I'm wrong). If entities are not the answer here, do you have any suggestions how I could get around the problem of editing the BZ URL in what would be uneditable text? > > FYI there is currently no maintainer for the jboss brand, so if you know anyone > with a FAS account who wants to be the maintainer let us know and we'll get > them hooked up. I have a situation where a flows over a page, and the content is either removed from the PDF, or squashed together in one small block. This happens throughout the user guide, and has been flagged in an Engineering QE review of the document. The fix to this issue is removing the keep-together.within-column rule in FOP 0.95 Jeff did say that removing the keep-together.within-column rule in FOP can cause content to page break at odd locations. He also noted it has been a long-standing policy that FOP accept the page length limitations on these types of items. Jeff is willing to drop the FOP rule, if there are no objections to doing so. If you have any issues with this fix being implemented, please speak up now. Reusing translations between different projects is only possible through manual use of the gettext tools and again, comes down to the skill of the person using them. One specific problem is that when documents are not branched carefully, it's very easy for translations to fall out of step with published books, making it very difficult to correct the translation of one particular version of a document without pulling in all the subsequent changes to the document. I've seen translators using scripts to create and apply gettext compendiums to get around these problems, but it would be good if Publican itself could support translation memory to assist reuse, or at the very least, have some way to "freeze" a version of the original language against which translations are applied. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
