Red Hat Linux 8 failing to boot up

Linux stops booting shortly after this message:
"Uniform Multi-Platform E-IDE Driver Revision: 6.31
IDE: Assuming 33MHz system bus speed for PCI modes; override with IDEBUS = xx
PCI_IDE: unknown IDE controller on PCI bus 00 device f9, VID=8086, DID=24ca."
I'm fairly new to Linux (I actually just got my laptop to dual boot in Linux and Windows XP), so I'm not entirely sure what my problem is or how to fix it.
Any help would be appreciated.
