Samba will use either, but the forward slashes ("//") are easier to use.
You have to escape backslashes. Two backslashes need to be specified as
"\\\\". Using backslashes, Kostas' thing would read:
mount -t smbfs -o username=Mark \\\\Computername\\Sharename
/mountpoint
Yuck!
