I've used xine as a DVD player but I've limited experience of it as I
don't have a DVD player any more (it lasted the guarantee period
then....). Other people will give you their favourites and experiences
I'm sure.
Ah. You understand the difference between rpms and tarballs, good. The
answer is that it just depends on what the tarball author wrote. You
don't give us any information on what your modem is (I'm guessing its a
winmodem), or what driver tarball you have. If googling around has not
yielded anyone who has reported experiences on installing that tarball
on RH9 then you could do a new post to the list asking (preferably in
the subject). Unfortunately, I've no experience of winmodems (I've stuck
to full modems) so I'm going to be of limited help to you on this one.
