Better yet, I installed mysql-devel - didn't know that was where
libmysqlclient was.  Now I don't get that error but I've got to
hit the books to figure out the new message.  Unable to connect
to server.  Do I need the SERVER software on my notebook?  All I
want to do it access another machine running the server.

Mmm, mabe it's in the drive mapping.
