MAJOR issue with userdel, useradd, etc.

Ok, we run userdel, and get this from time to time:

[root at borg etc]# /usr/sbin/userdel jattest
userdel: unable to lock group file

We also get this for useradd, etc.

Nothing but a reboot in the past has cleared this up.  There are no lock
files that we can find.  This is on a NIS master running AS3.0, straight
from the box.  No patches.

This is a major problem for us.
