changed mobo, no sound

under windoze, it says the sound system is cmi based. tho kudzu and sndconfig 
thinks its via. neither the via driver nor the cmi driver will insert. how 
can i manually insert what linux wants.

have a modified rh8.0 with xfree 4.4.0 and kde 3.4 beta. xfree supplied 
binaries and kde compiled from source.

any help would be appreciated.

btw: dont suggest redhat_* to set this up, all those commands do is pop up 
kdeuser.
