If you look closely at the njabl.org FAQ entry you'll see the last bit
shows that the "penalty" for each "infraction type" varies from a
whopping "3.0" for several tests down to a much lower "0.62" for the
NJABL_DUL test. Since it's only a sample put out by njabl.org the
"penalty" used by the mail servers you are dealing could be all over
the map. Most likely, though, it will only add a fraction of the
overall spam "score" by spamassassin. Usually there is a provision to
add a particular email address to a "whitelist" which will cause a
very negative score to be added to the tally for the email. Has your
friend contacted the postmaster at the server?
Looking at your original note you mentioned that the email from your
friend was "blocked". Since spamassassin doesn't block mail in any
fashion it may be that the receiving mail server is using a dnsbl in
conjunction with his MTA. This type of "blocking", however, usually
concerns the "connecting" system rather than the "originating" system
for a particular piece of email even if they use the very same dnsbl.
