OK, I give up. I've seen the errors of my ways :-).  Here's a new
rpm-by-date:

#/bin/bash
rpm -qa --last|tac

p.s. It doesn't hurt to learn about rpm --queryformat even it wasn't the
cleanest answer at the time.
