FWIW: I received a reply off the list about the blank lines that stated...

Each blank line comes from a line not ending in DNL
but you do not need to put my name on the list about this.

As a test, I edited my linux.m4 file and added DNL's. Sure enough! The 3
extra blank lines that were originally generated were gone in my new .cf
file.
