service httpd status, results in httpd dead but subsys locked

service httpd status, results in httpd dead but subsys locked
service httpd start <OK>
service httpd stop <FAILED>

It does not create a pid for httpd

I've tried deleting the /var/lock/subsys/httpd file and the end result is
the same.

I have the following error message in my httpd error log

Allowed memory size of 128 bytes exhasted (tried to allocate 8 bytes)

I am running RH Enterprise 3
As of 4:00 Sunday morning the above error message appeared



Everything was working fine until Monday.... ARGH!!!

The server has been running for months without issue.

Any help would be appreciated.
