Well,

I recommend using dyndns, with comcast, i'm not certain how often the ip
changes but you could find a way to update the dyndns server via dyndns
client which is available on their site or atleast a link is.

Also, I recommend using SSH as opposed to using VNC, as nice as VNC is, I'm
not sure what security vulnerabilities come with it. I would recommend
learning how to export X or use the X forwarding feature of X. Also, it
seems you're rather new to linux so I'd read up on securing it so that it
isn't some hackers playground.

Quite a number of routers have a built in client for dynamic DNS services.
You sign up and create an account, and put that info into the setup page of
your router.  Then whenever it's external IP is re-assigned, it will go out
and update the dynamic service for you automatically.  You get an alias like
scullyhouse.dyndns.org or whatever free name you can find available at the
service.  But it should always resolve to your router from the outside.

I'm coming late to this thread.  Is there a router running NAT in this cable
modem setup?  If so, you'll have to direct some particular ports to whatever
internal IP number the RedHat box is using.

Also, an easy way to see what your public IP address is at any moment.
Point your browser to www.whatismyip.com.

I do the same thing as what you want to do. You have several options open:
if you want command console access then you can use SSH and download a SSH
client for whatever the office computer is- Eg Windows or Linux. Come back
with what the OS of the computer your office computer is running and we can
assist you for setting it up.

IF you want to access in GNOME then you can download VNC for Linux. I
believe VNC is included on Disk 3 of RH9. I have no idea how to configure it

in Linux but the Port that is used in the Windows Version of VNC is 5900.
