X-windows will not start with new kernel

That's a good thing.  Did you use any system provided kernel 
configuration files when you built the new kernel or did you start 
entirely from scratch?

Kernel configuration isn't my foremost forte but I do seem to remember 
something different about setting it up with an onboard ATI like that 
(from a Dell PowerEdge 2300 machine).  Can you send your kernel config 
file?  Did you save it?
