/etc/yum.conf is for yum, not for up2date. /etc/sysconfig/rhn/sources
is for up2date. And up2date is not "yum based". Actually it just
supports Yum repositories.

Note thought, that Red Hat Linux 8.0 and 9 have reached end-of-life
and are no longer supported by Red Hat. You may need to get security
fixes and other errata from projects like Fedora Legacy, read
http://www.fedoralegacy.org, who don't support Red Hat Linux 8.0
anymore either, however, due to lack of community commitment.
