Hey ,
boot the system with bootable CD or bootdisk and then go into the
system as root. then change root partition using the command for eg..
chroot /mnt/sysimage
then check the boot message
dmesg
here u can view the boot message. Then check the /etc/inittab file for
the init level
it should be
id:5:initdefault:
like this....
