Hi Barry. It is likely what you will have to do is put /usr/X11R6/lib in
/etc/ld.so.conf, run ldconfig, and then try installing again.

Subject: up2date and problems with X, others

I ran up2date last night on a machine with RH 3.0-ES,
and have had various problems since.

First, I had to restart xfs before the X server would
start.

When I got it running, I saw that all the gnome icons
were gone. (I'm fairly new and I need to icons to try
to maneuver up2date to try again.)

Also, I noticed that the old mozilla is gone, but the
version (1.4.3) that should have replaced it never
installed.

I tried installing that by hand and got failed
dependencies, although the files are there. For
example,

libX11.so.6 is needed by mozilla-1.4.3-3.0.4

but

but

libX11.so.6 exists in /usr/X11R6/lib

The new XFree should be 4.3.0-78.EL, but XFree86
-version tells me I have 4.3.0-69.EL

rpm -q says neither one is installed.

Help! I'm lost.

Barry
