Strange Problem with Redhat Enterprise Edition -WS - 3.0

Hi,

We have

# more /etc/redhat-release
Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS release 3 (Taroon)
----------------------------------------------
We usually login using humming bird.

The issue is,sometimes the "vi <filename>" takes more than 10 min. :((
The File is a local disk file and size is somewhat around 2k.If i try to 
open a other file in using other Xterm,the problem remains same..

Once any one of file gets opened , there is no problem in opening other 
files for somewhat half hr....

After sometime the same..problem happenes :((

What's happneing and how could i solve this ?
