If you buy the RHES online, you should have received an email
giving you your account number and (software) item number.
If you then log on to RHN and put these details in, as well
as the machine details, then you should be able to apply up2date
on the machine you registered.
That's how I got mine to work.
In practice, I believe there is nothing to stop anyone loading
RHES on any PC without buying RHES. I don't know if it is
legal to do so. But up2date will not work until this machine
is registered in the RHN's database.

Updates to RH Enterprise Server is a chargeable service.
Once you have bought the service, you need to log on to the RHN network, add
in your RHN subscription details and then assign the machine into the
subscription channel.
Once that is done, up2date will work.

We bought newly Redhat Enterprise Server 3.0 Basic Edition
I can't update my server with up2date -u -f , it giving a message like this
"This system may not be updated until it is associated with a channel"
Could you say why ? What does mean associated with a channel
