synaptic problem

Trying to use synaptic to update system (RH 9.0) and
it wants to "upgrade" OpenOffice1.1 to OO1.0.2.  

Not real good with terminal commands, but I assuame I
can bypass Synaptic by using that - but not sure of
how..

Or, is there a way to tell synaptic not to downgrade
existing programs?
