root.hints or named.ca

I am seeing documentation that uses either named.ca or roots.hints. Does it
matter? I assuming that as long as either file is updated (current) it
doesn't matter. Right? 
 zone  "." {
        type hint;
        file  "named.ca"; and sometimes "roots.hints"
};
