Yamaha external CD-RW not responding

I have an USB Yamaha external CD-RW (model CRW2200E), located at /mnt/cdrom2. When I
boot RHEL with this device turned on, it may become unresponsive. When it
happens, the
following command will hang :
$ eject /mnt/cdrom2

To circumvent that problem, I turn it on only when init 5 has been reached.

Sometimes, when I shutdown my PC, I have a message similar to the one below just
before
the shutdown. The message is repeated 3 times before the shutdown.
"unable to umount /home: peripheral is busy [FAILED]"

/home is an ext3 partition. However, this may not be correlated. Here are
the relevant parts of my log file.
