How can I help to troubleshoot an ide-scsi / kernel issue?

Well,

Your Burner are attached to the primary master controller interface?
Some Burners have issues with this type of configuration. Try to Move
the Burner to the secondary slave port on IDE controller (/dev/hdd).
This solve my problem with an IDE CDRW Burner.
