It's the gateway correct?
Can you ping any other machine on your LAN?
Can you ping adresses away of your LAN?

Have you done all steps to configure yours connection:

ifconfig ethX X.X.X.X netmask X.X.X.X broadcast
X.X.X.X up

route add -net default gw X.X.X.X (where X.X.X.X is
your gateway)

Now, to set up your DNS servers:
echo nameserver X.X.X.X > /etc/resolv.conf (where
X.X.X.X are your DNS ip's)

Then try: /etc/init.d/network restart

Have you done theses steps well?

Cheers
