disk clonning tool

Hi,
Thanks for the support.

Before trying this, I would like to know few things more

1) do we have to make partition manually? 
if yes, does it require equal size of partition in both disk or only significant amount 
of space to accommodate the size ?
2) Will it write in MBR of another disk?
3) After mirroring, do we need to change anything to boot from the mirrored disk?

I find dd useful when you have (potentially lots of) indentical disks and you can take the machine down to boot off CD (Redhat in rescue mode or Knoppix), then you can mirror disks exactly.

dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdb bs=8192

... where sda is your original disk and sdb is the one you want to mirror to.
