updating KDE 3.2.2?

I used up2date in GNOME since I only have that installed as a GUI. I did
however install KDE also in up2date. up2date does check for dependancy
problems but mainly what needs to be done is to update the dependancies. I
had no problems updating. On a side note, I havn't updated the kernal of
RH9. Do people think it is a good idea to do? It's just I read a nightmare
story on computing.net when someone did this.
