Hey take a look at http://www.raxnet.net/products/cacti/  I have only worked
with Linux about a year or so part time and I found this to be very easy to
install and configure (all web based) it uses the RRD tool.  Very nice
graphs and great support.  It also has a plug in you can get on the forum
that allows you to zoom in to 5 min. incremental!  Very NICE!

It's /etc/mrtg/mrtg.cfg that needs to be modified and it's this
configuration file that needs to be updated with the mrtg_total specific
entries.  I've included my first interface in mrtg.cfg below.  Note that I
specified the directory that the graphs went into so they end up in
/var/www/mrtg/graphs/mrtg_total
