RH9 Lost Menus

I have searched and searched and have found others with the same or
similar problem, but no solutions. I have newly installed RH9 machine. I
used apt to update the machine and it updated a ton of stuff. 

Now I have no menu in gnome or kde. When I click on the red hat for the
menu all I have is:
Run Program...
Search for Files...
Open Recent
Lock Screen
Log Out

Is there any way to get the default menus back?
