And Sun's freedom comes at a price.  You must register with Sun to even
use the product.  That doesn't sound like you can give your friend a
copy like you can (and should!) with Fedora.  Who knows what else you
have to give up to use it?

In any case, open source Solaris is currently vaporware.  Until it is
available, there's not a lot of point talking about it.  People like me
don't get to see the proposed license agreements.
