sun solaris .vs linux

Sounds like you want to use Sun's Grid Engine. It does run under Linux
so you don't have to be running Solaris to use it.

However, their goal from what I understand is that Solaris 10 will be
binary compatible with Linux.

(sorry ryan, i wasn't in pitts!)

one of the main reasons i ask about solaris/linux is that solaris
apparently has some advanced ability to handle distributed/grid
applications/jobs.

if solaris 10 essentially allows me to download/use the OS, much like
fedora, and i don't lose anything with regards to building/running apps,
i might have to seriously think about solaris...

i'm considering a grid system of distributed computers tied together via
the internet (similar to seti at home). solaris would appear to be useful
in this regard!!!

thanks...

Where you in Pittsburgh last weekend?

Solaris should be just as compatible as it is now with linux.

hi...

Since sun appears to be doing an 'open source' release of solaris 10,
how compatible is that with linux/RH linux?

I was curious as to what different perspectives are regarding what
Solaris offers .vs Linux...

thanks
