NVidia Drivers

Ok, I just tried to install the NVidia drivers on my computer.  I
deleted the few lines that it wanted me to from the modules list in the
xfree86 config file, and I changed the driver from "nv" to "nvidia".  I
restarted the computer, it shows the NVidia splash screen and then the
systems crashes on me.  Im able to move the cursor but it won't load
anything after that.  Any advice?
