Run 2.4.20 kernel on RHEL 3.0?

Hi Folks, 

I'm trying to install Sun One Studio on my RHEL 3.0 WS machine and have
run into a problem.

It seems that SunOne 5 has a bug where it will hang during install if
you're running a kernel higher than
2.4.20, I have found instructions for recompiling the kernel but it
causes the system to seize if I change
The kernel name in the grub.conf file.

Does anyone have any Ideas?
